The Colorado Springs Open

The 15th Annual Colorado Springs Open was held the 14th and 15th of October at SportsCentre II on the US Olympic Training Center Campus in Colorado Springs. Francisco Mendez, formerly from the Mexican National Table Tennis Team and a new Denver resident, defeated Scott Preiss of Manitou Springs, CO in a spectacular match, including some great lobbing points and a few of Scott's oft-practiced exhibition shots. Mendez also bested Preiss in the finals of Open Doubles where they were joined by Dana Jeffries and Kevin Young, respectively. David Hays of Gilette Wyoming defended his A singles title in the U-1950 event, defeating Tulio Wolford of Colorado Springs. Another new Denver resident, Ki Soo Han, collected top prize in the U-1800 singles event. Chris Leach was the recipient of the 2000 Paul Cracraft Sportsmanship Award.
